There are two Long Arms in every Archivist scanner. They are made from 18mm Baltic Birch plywood. In the Archivist, the traditional 608ZZ skate bearing was replaced with an F608ZZ bearing, which has a flange. This allows the Short and Long arms to have their bearing holes cut all the way through. The Long Arms, together with the Short Arms, connect the lifters to the Side Plates. The Long Arms also have a 1/4 20 clearance hole to allow a 1/4 20 furniture bolt to attach the Handle Bar. There is an additional hole which accepts a 40mm M8 bolt. The head of this bolt engages a notch in the end of the handlebar. This bolt arrangement serves as an anti-rotation mechanism for the handlebar, and also accepts an adjustable bungee which helps the operator lift the book.
